Dr. Peluso was born in Astoria, NY (a borough of Queens in NYC). She grew up in Long Island, NY where she attended Hofstra University. She earned degrees in chemistry and biology. She then attended Brown University where she earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. She came to Delaware as a research chemist for the Dupont company. After several years in commercial industry, Dr. Peluso decided she wanted to teach. She accepted a position as Assistant Professor of chemistry at the University of Delaware. Courses she taught include general chemistry, physical chemistry, and analytical chemistry.
While at the University of Delaware, her mother became ill with cancer and Dr. Peluso took care of her. After her mother passed, Dr. Peluso felt compelled to become a physician. She attended Jefferson Medical College and was graduated in 1991. She did her residency at the Medical Center of Delaware (now Christiana Care).
